personally I'm not too fond of the g5RV made by radio works either, same
thing, it never did what I wanted, then tropical storm Irene took out the
trees it was supported by and shredded it. I found on taking it apart to get
it off the ground, a lot of moisture in unaffected areas which does explain
why it didn't perform as well as expected after the first couple months, it
was good for a couple months and seemed to decline after that. Our little
one is born so not much antenna work going on now but the vertical is
together laying in the sun room, when my wife is recovered from the c
section I'll probably go out and lay radials, get the antenna up and all a
little at a time, hopefully I'll be back having fun again very shortly. Mast
is in the ground, antenna's together and ready, it's just a time thing right
now. Losing my computer this week to a major parts failure didn't help
either but now that I'm caught up on sleep, I can put in a late night with
the computer anyway. That will be one less thing to worry about. I am
looking forward to being on the air though, 900 MHz is OK, but it's not HF.
I don't know if I'd even have my 900 MHz radio on as much as I do if I
didn't have a repeater on the band to monitor.
