Aciphex - three people took 20 mg for several years
Protonix – 1
Omeprazole/Sodium Bicarbonate Capsules – 1
Prilosec – 1
Nexium – 4 (one said she took it twice a day)
Ranitidine – 1

I read an article recently in Peoples Pharmacy column about taking drugs
like Prevacid and Nexium every day can cause hip fractures.
http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2012/02/13/hip-fractures-linked-to-heartburn-drugs/- hope
this will take you there.

I take Nexium...but in small amounts (no more than 20 mg? per
day...sometimes even less....I open capsules and take as little as possible. Sorry,
that should have been "dispense as written"....at bottom of every RX pad,
there is a small box for these initials... Look at your drug plan's
formulary to see if they require special auth...many do, because the original
nexium went generic a few years back, but I did not do well on any of the other,
cheaper brands they usually push on you, some now over-the-counter...
Usually, particularly if you are celiac, your doctor can get insurance to
authorize it.. Though who knows, you may be ok with cheaper stuff...

Insurance companies don't like to pay for brand name drugs like Aciphex
and Nexium - generics are cheaper. (I work in a pharmacy).
I take omeprazole, the generic for prilosec. I don't think Prevacid has
been pulled - it went generic. "Lansoprazole" is the generic name.
+++++
I take omeprazole for GERD, but I also take diclofenac, a non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory, so I'd be taking it even if I didn't have GERD.
++++++
NOTE: I'm really confused after reading all the side effects of these
drugs. I called my Target pharmacist and she said Prevacid hasn't been
recalled - it's now available as a general prescription. Why, after they sold it
OTC.
I see my gastro dr. before I see my rheumatologist so guess I'll try
Prilosec since it's available OTC.
