Below are the replies that I received about carpal tunnel issues.
I have been on thyroid meds for 25 years, so i don't see the pain leaving
if I change meds or dosage.
I spoke with my DR and he said it can take twice as long for
Celiac/GI patients to heal any nerve that is affected than people who can
eat wheat. So while my surgery itself will heal in 6 weeks, I am looking at
a longer recovery time for any nerve that has been affected. He also told
me this was true for my back surgery.
Thanks for the replies to my questions.
Jami
I've had both of mine done, the right one twice.
Yes, it is a sign of hypothyroid, though mine was not.
Jami, I was diagnosed with CTS and the neurologist was ready to schedule
surgery. I held off, however, because I had a newborn. I'm glad I did
because once my thyroid was stabilized, I didn't have CTS anymore. I
didn't realize I had celiac then (which I know now). I don't know how long
you've been taking thyroid medicine, but maybe you won't need the surgery
either after all.
I have the beginning stages of carpal tunnel too and mine luckily hasn't
gotten so bad that I need surgery (yet). I remember a list mate here
talking about carpal tunnel before (you might find her post in the
archives), but she said that she and others found that taking Vitamin B
supplements (sublingual, if I remember, for best absorption) in somewhat
higher doses made a dramatic change in their carpal tunnel pain and one
woman avoided surgery because of it. Vit. B affects our nerves and perhaps
it helps with the inflammation around the nerves in the wrist. I wonder if
you could find the emails in the archives and ask them if that seemed to
make a long-term affect on their wrist pain.
Yes. Definitely a hypothyroidism issue. Mine is totally gone. See
stopthethyroidmadness.com. Cancel your surgery.
I haven't had that specific surgery, but when I had hernia surgery it
didn't take me any longer than the average person to heal.
I had the non surgical release and I have DH. The relief was instant and I
had use of my wrists in about 15 minutes. It's been about 4 years now and I
am pain free and the bone is still released. My pain had been horrible from
the celiacs DH. I had both wrist done on the same day. A famous doctor (I
think from CA) has developed the none surgical release. Basically, I had no
issues.
