Hi Peter,
I searched and found a few solutions to 6230 problems.
Seems to be a power issue with this card which apparently does both
Wireless & Bluetooth.
Also maybe a couple of protocol issues.
These are not my solutions, but excerpts from newsgroups.
Maybe you can save a USB port
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i upgraded to the 6230 since it had the combo bluetooth adapter like my
stock wifi card.
had some issues with internet dropping randomly after install. i ended up
disabling 802.11n mode
in driver settings and no problems since.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
encountered problems when I put the new Intel 6230 card in, I ASSUMED the
problem lay with either the
router or Intel card. Your mention of power management made me check. Sure
enough, under Windows
power management the "on battery" power plan had the wireless connectivity
set to maximize battery life
(really?). When I changed it to maximize performance I was back in business
- no network dropouts.

Re: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 won't connect to WPA or WPA2
I have AT&T Uverse with WPA2 and was not able to connect. I went into the
router settings and removed
MAC filtering. My laptop connected. I then enabled MAC filtering and my
laptop disconnected.  So I copied
the laptop MAC address and put it into the "allowed" group. I have been
able to connect ever since.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This what I did:
1) I upgraded to the last firemware version
2) I configure manual de WPA/WPA2.  As always says recommend left settings
in automatic I left that why but
this time I change that I found the following message when I put the first
try:
*"We do not recommend using the TKIP encryption if the device operates in
802.11n mode due to the fact that TKIP is not supported by 802.11n
specification"*
So you do have to configure manual with the protocol  AES and your "Intel
Centrino Advanced-N 6230"
will work fine,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was also having issues with my wireless connections. Only thing that
worked for me was going in to the advanced power saving options and
selecting maximum performance for wireless adapter when on battery. Appears
to have resolved my problems.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Disabling bluetooth devices worked for me. Make sure you disable them all,
there's like 6 dotted around device manager.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Change 'wireless adapter setting'(in power options) to 'max performance'
should fix it. Thank you so much. I have set it and internet is fast as
normal now when using battery.

*Re: 6230 won't connect to WPA or WPA2
*the solution for me and my connection issues is as follows:
I found a recommendation to set QoS / WMM on my router to "Enabled".
You may also want to enable WMM in the Device Manager / Network Adapter /
Advanced-N 6230 / Advanced / Ad Hoc QoS Mode = WMM Enabled
