and you can buy packages of small metal tent stakes at the dollar store for 
around, a dollar lol.
You can then buy a package of small thin, but durable rope at same dollar 
store, and use the tent stakes and rope to guy or secure the camera tri-pod.
I've seen camera tri-pods at lots of liquidation stores, and discount stores 
etc for 10 bucks or less.
a camera tri-pod is no bigger than a folded cane when it is collapsed, and 
you certainly don't need a car to transport a folded cane.
