I don't know how the scanner is laid out, but I once had a
receiver with motorola antenna plugs on the back. I wanted to
plug in a whip antenna that went up at a right angle and of
course the motorola connector would not prevent the antenna from
flopping one way or the other, so I got one of those broom holder
thingees at a hardware store and mounted it on the back of the
scanner above the motorola plug. When The antenna was plugged
in, the whip fit into the broom holder and was securely anchored
in an upright position. Of course, I wrapped tape around the
whip where it contacted the little holder and it worked fine.
But, if your scanner layout does not permit mounting something
above the connector, then it's back to square one again. Jim

That's the nature of BNC connectors, you're right a new one will
only do the
same thing. I have a scanner like that as well, the one in my
sun room and
as long as you can secure the antenna to something, or make
something like I
did to go on the antenna and down on the top of the scanner, not
much on top
of it just enough to hold the antenna straight, that should be
fine.

Subject: Scanner antenna
Hi,
I have a Bearcat BC350a scanner. It uses a right angle bnc
antenna. The
part that swivels has become loose and unless the antenna is
standing
perfectly straight up, will fall to one side or the other.
I am looking for an alternate solution. Any ideas? I cannot do
outdoors. I will also put this to the local hams. I could get
a new one
but I dont know that it will not also have the same issue.
