are you refering to the wouxun UDP6? or the baofeng uv5R?
be careful, you may find yourself using it as your primary radio once you 
find out how good it is.
both of the above radios can be programmed like you say with minimal fuss 
without sight.
I think buddy was the one who posted about the wouxun and gave some pointers 
on how to best program it.
the baofeng uv5R is the 65 dollar radio and has most of the same features as 
the wouxun HT's.
I highly recommend the baofeng radios.  I have the UV3R dual bander and use 
it every day.
