Tom, in reference to your S K friend's gear I think he owned an Omni six. 
That rig is very accessible to a blind op if you have the talking module. 
You do need sighted help to set it up but then everything you need is on the 
front panel and is nice to use.  I do have an extra talking module if anyone 
with a sight problem happens to get that rig.  73
