I've seen the results of chaining grounds.  When I was a teen years ago there
was a guy in the local ham club who did that and took a lightning hit.  Looking
at the equipment it looked that the further up the chain it went the worse the
damage so that by the time the strike got to his radio it blew it all over his
shack.
