You could be referring to packet radio, RTTY, PSK31 or other data modes - even CW!

I don't know if my subject says what I have in mind. What I am thinking
of is connecting a braille display to a transmitter and receiver through
a modem such as is used for Internet connections over a phone line. I
think people are already using something like this with a computer. What
is it called? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
