Hi Karl!

Mobile Kenwood TM-V71 http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Communications/Amateur_Radio/Mobiles/TM-V71A
Optional speech on menu and frequency read out. PC software with good accesibility. TX on 2m and 70cm. RX from 118 to 1300MHz. Both fixed and programable shortcut keys.

Hand held Icom IC-T90A http://www.icomamerica.com/en/products/t90a/
TX on 6m, 2m and 70cm. RX from 0.1 to 999 MHz. Accesible PC software and frequency read by morse. The radio have many shortcuts that maikes it posible to turn on a function with one key press.

Thsi is what I'm using for local and portable FM trafic on V/UHF. I'm very happy with this radios but will recommend buying another antenna for the T90A since the original antenna is only usabel for very local trafic and totally unusable for 6m.

Subject: Good first radio?

Hi,
Thanks for the many welcomes and I look forward to having a lot of fun =
on the list. What would people recommend as a good first radio? I'm =
looking for something that will give me a good variety of frequencies =
while not breaking the bank or requiring a lot of installation. I was =
looking at the TYT electronics TH-UVF1 online as I saw it has voice =
prompts. Does anyone use this radio? If so, what do you think of it? Do =
you have any other recommendations?
