It's not impossible. I once had a computer go flakey, not plugged in, not
hooked to anything, but there was a strike somewhere not too far from the
house, and that computer never worked right again. It was fine when I shut
down hearing the storm in the distance and I've heard of other similar
instances, some of the chips in today's electronics are very very sensitive
and I swear just the slight charge in the air can cause things to go off. I
don't know how many cable boxes I've blown over the years getting a static
electricity shock from them. In the house I grew up in I think we lost one
every winter that way, something was a bit off there obviously but even the
house after that we did that once or twice. My wife's aunt lost 2 cable
boxes this past summer due to lightning storms and one they say they never
even heard it strike close by or anything but it worked before the storm,
not after. So, I tend to believe it's not only likely that did it, it's more
than likely something like that happened.
