Lisa,
We recently had a thread on protected view on the list.
If a document is protected, your friend can press F12, as if he were
going to save it. The computer will give him a warning that tells him
the document is protected and can not be changed but that, if he trusts
the source, he can enable editing. He'll have to shift+tab once (I
think) to get to a link that says something about enabling editing and
press enter there.
If your friend is a Jaws 13 user, this will probably not work. If it
doesn't, your friend can press alt, then F, then down-arrow once, then
up-arrow several times until he gets to Save As. He can press enter
there and when he does, he'll be at the same dialogue box that gives him
the warning. Note: that pressing alt+F followed by A does not work with
Jaws 13.
Ciao
