That is the strange part of this story. I went to the C:/Dell/R96978 
directory and activated the install file. I checked the device manager, 
found the yellow question mark still by the ethernet controller, went 
into that to re-install the driver and during the driver re-install 
pointed to the windows/system directory, the windows/system32 directory 
and the C:/Dell/R96978 directory, each in turn without finding a driver? 
I booted up and tried all that again. No luck?
