Hello Linda, The General Class license gives you more privelleges than the
Technician. It is the second step along the licensing structure. With the
Technician you can operate on the the six and two meter bands plus other VHF
bands. You can also operate on part of the ten meter band.
With the General Class license you can operate on all of the same bands as
the Technician plus all of the HF bands. Those being 160 80/75, 60, 40, 30,
20, 17, 15, 12 and all of the 10 meter band. There are small portions of
several of these bands that are restricted to the Extra Class alone but all
privelleges in most case are available to the General Class.
This gives the General Class licensee the ability to do many communications
over a much larger area than the Technician.
As you already know the Technician license requires a 35 question exam. The
qualify for the General you must pass that same exam plus another one that
has 35 questions that are a bit more advanced.
