I don't know about this particular transceiver but I tried to learn to 
operate an ic7000 earlier this year and boy I was glad to get my ts850 back 
from the shop.  It takes the vgs1 like the Kenwoods but the firmware needs 
to be upgraded to give the vgs1 the ability to work as well as it does on 
the Kenwoods.  73- pat kk3f
