Look at it this way,  I've read all of the Hardy Boys books from Bookshare. 
If I had to buy the books in either Kindle edition or Ibooks, it would cost 
me a lot more than the yearly membership.

I was a member when in college but wasn't impressed and would never have the
money to spend much less spend that much if I did have it with so many free
resources out there. In college the student membership was free so I used
that.
