Hi all! The novice license in it's final version offered phone
privilages on 222 to 225 Mhz and 28.3 to 28.5 Mhz, wich is why that
portion of the 10 merter band is known as the novice/tech portion of the
band! Originally, Novices and Technitions did not share privilages and
in fact, some beginners were known to hold both licenses at the same
time. Back then, the novice was 1 year, non renewable. It was later
given a 2 year non renewable term until the fcc brought out what was call
novice enhancement, wich gave the novice a 10 year term, and phone
privilages. Sometime during that mess, Technitions were given novice
privilages wich allowed many Techs, such as myself, to get on CW and get
the code speed up! That is why Techs have what is know as novice
privilages now, even though there is no such animal as a novice anymore!
GRIN! Like the advanced, the novice may be renewed indeffinatly!
