Several speakers at the recent Baltimore meeting spoke in detail about the
photomicrographic analysis of biopsy specimens from the small intestine,
all as a critical step in the diagnosis of celiac.
Well, I asked for and got a copy of the "surgical pathology" report (but
not any photomicrographs) on my own biopsy samples.
Frankly, I'm puzzled as I expected much more detail than I got. Do we also
have to worry about the quality of the pathology labs (and their
familiarity with celiac), just as we do for the antibody results?
Perhaps some professional can comment on what should be in this report (all
assuming the biopsy samples provide good cross sections of the surface).
Which, if any, stains or biochemical assays on intestinal fluid may also
appropriate?
