I know in XP, control panel, sounds and audio devices, audio tab, then 
advanced button, you can select which speakers are to be used for a 
particular sound device.  I always thought this was global and that all 
sounds would be routed to the  chosen speakers.  Perhaps there is 
something to be done here, or  maybe from within the particular software 
you want routed somewhere else.

I'd be afraid to monkey around too much here, lest jaws goes away and 
leaves you hanging.
