Mode is totally separate, their is an antenna relay in the transmitter. 
sharing a vfo, and antenna is far different from being a true tranceiver. 
The thing about the drakes is that every turn of a frequency dial, is 
exactly 25 KHZ.  You can plug in a crystal and operate on anything from 1.8 
to 30 mhz.  The only exclusion is 5 to 5.5 mhz.
Does the r4c have the CW filters?
