> A symbolic sod-cutting and brick-laying ceremony has taken place for the construction of a Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital for the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), College of Health Sciences.
> The Hospital, which is expected to deal mainly with pets or companion animals, will have consulting and treatment rooms, a pharmacy, clinical diagnostic and radiology units, surgical theatres with preparation rooms, and also recovery rooms and wards for small animals.

> The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, who was the Chairman for the Ceremony, recounted the drawn-out process prior to the establishment of the SVM. He gave assurance that the University would complete the construction on schedule so as to realize its aim of offering excellent training to future Veterinarians.

He therefore assured the SVM of the Ministry’s support for partnership with other foreign institutions to make it a world-class centre of animal and public health.

> Prof. William Bosu, donated a number of textbooks and surgical equipment to the SVM. The items were donated by the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association through an appeal for support he made to the two Institutions on behalf of the SVM.
> The ceremony was attended by Officials of the University, staff and students of the SVM. Others included the Chairman of the Education and Accreditation committee of the Veterinary Council, Dr. William Amanfo, the Head of the Central Veterinary Laboratory in Accra, Dr. Joseph Awuni, and past and present faculty members of CACS.
> The ceremony was followed by the planting of trees and the symbolic laying of a brick by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey. Construction of the Hospital has already started.
