Hello!

GIG of Indianapolis is currently sponsoring a series of monthly "Gluten Free Healthy Basics" programs for the local gluten intolerant membership in our area.

We'd like to offer our membership the opportunity to try samples of light snacks at these meetings. However, because much of our purpose is to help our membership learn about eating healthier foods, we feel quite strongly that the usual GF support meeting "smorgasbord" of GF cookies, muffins, brownies, fried chips and so on … well, it just falls outside of what we are trying to communicate to our group!

Since I'm sure that people will write about the following to us … let me just say up front that, yes, we generally agree with the notion that nearly anything in moderation "could" be a reasonable choice. However, we are acutely aware that our members find these types of "guilty-pleasure" foods (described above) easily enough on their own. It's what they crave, so naturally they seek these things out without our help! And we, frankly, are trying to get members to branch out -- and find excitement in life and nutrition beyond cupcakes or pizza.

We'd like to be able to let them sample foods that perhaps they had not thought of, and could be considered a healthy part of their diet -- not primarily made up of highly processed flours, sugars and fats -- potentially just empty calories.

So, we are seeking help and suggestions from this group! We are high on good intentions, but fairly lean on man (or woman) hours to "make" foods from scratch for our meetings. So, any suggestions must be things that we can simply pull out of a package or box and set on a tray -- and that we can keep in a cupboard (not frozen or refrigerated) until we bring them to the meetings and set them out.

Is this an impossible task or idea? We certainly hope not -- but we also have come up with very limited ideas on our own!

I certainly WILL provide back to the group a list of viable ideas -- and these might be useful for other meeting leaders, and even for folks just in general, wishing there were some healthy types of GF snacks readily available!

And, if you are a manufacturer of a GF products that would fit our criteria, please let us know as well.

This is such a great resource! We just know you can help us!!

Thanking you all in advance!
