I have a 6 year old daughter that had a stroke in-utero. She has a brain injury on her left side which causes mild weakness on the right of her body. She has had a total of 10 partial complex seizures which have stopped. But now she has frequent sub-clinical epileptic spikes, once every 3 minutes. According to the EEG, the spikes arise on the right side of the brain which is opposite to her brain injury. According to the Neuro, there is no known cause for the spikes but they can affect her cognitively. He is recommending anti-seizure medicine which we are opposed to.

Here is the problem - my Neurologist, GI and Pediatrician are all mocking me when I suggest that the spikes might be related to gluten sensitivity. Her blood test for Celiac was negative, but she had the Gluten Panel done at Enterolab. It showed that her antibodies were at 16, slightly above the range. She also has one of the genes for Celiac, plus one gene for gluten sensitivity. Moreover, I did my own week long gluten free trial when my husband was out of town; her constipation and ADHD type behavior diminished. I have presented the doctors and my husband with numerous medical articles. To everyone on this list, it may seem obvious to just remove the gluten from her diet. But her father refuses to acknowledge any connection. I feel like it is me against the world...

Can anyone recommend a Neurologist in the NW which supports dietary treatments?

Thank you, Michelle
