Having recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I've cut out unnecessary sugar and avoid high glycemic foods. This means, I've started to use artificial sweeteners and Stevia, wherever I would have used sugar. Today, I bought aguave syrup, on a whim, but in researching it, I found one very negative article online. This one is pretty scary. I'm not sure the author isn't "way out there," though.

Do any of you use aguave?
I just use sweeteners in my coffee, tea...and a tad on my morning oatmeal. Not a lot. Since I think all artificial sweeteners are harmful, I keep it to a minimum, and rotate them.
Oddly enough, when I use just Splenda, and not take turns with the others, my asthma gets worse. The pulmonologist and endocrinologist (husband and wife, respectively) made a note of this, but no-one knows what possible connection there could be.
Baking? What might be the best sweetener to bake with, on the rare occasion that I need a cake? Anyone use Aguave? Does it have a taste? I find that Stevia has a licorice aftertaste, that I don't really like, so I hesitate to bake with it.
Thanks.
Lin
