So far, the responses I've received that were positive were from
Williston, VT,
West Virginia (no town)
Canton, OH
Virginia (no town)
St. Augustine, Fla
Indianapolis (see below)
The negatives came from
Massachusetts (no town)
rural N.C. (definitely a bad experience, no town given)
and 1 bad experience at Indianapolis, where the other experiences were good.
The knowledge of the staff seems to vary from place to place. Most recommended Outback over Longhorn. Adivce is consistent...ask for a knowledgeable waitstaff, give our typical gf speech...and bring your own gf menu from the internet, because not all the places have them. One was willing to print it out for the customer.
Long Horn is owned by Darden, as are Red Lobster, Olive Garden, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52. I know I'm not impressed at all with Olive Garden (Voorhees, NJ), personally. In fact, it's the one time I wrote something very negative to a company. I have yet to try the others, most of which I can find in or near Cherry Hill, NJ, where I live.
FYI, the gf menu online says to ask that the grill is cleaned and that the food is prepped on a clean surface.
I miss Lone Star. They were never willing to commit to a gf menu, but most of their meals were gf, and I never got sick there. And since we went often, the staff knew us. But they're long gone, at least on the east coast. Thanks for your replies.
