Very interesting, however, it is just a interesting theory with no clinical
data(that I see) to back it up.
What is good about the article is that it points out that there are
obviously other factors involved. Those factors probably vary from
individual to individual. What triggers addictive eating and weight gain
will vary from person to person.
An example: I once mentioned to a friend who was an alcoholic (sober for a
few years)that I had to throw away some bottles of Sam Adams beer that had
been sitting in my fridge for over a year. The beer was purchased for a
party and never got drunk.
He was amazed that the beer had sat in my fridge for over a year. He said
that he wouldn't have been able to resist drinking it. He was a very thin
guy and I asked him could he leave a six pack of ice cream bars in his
freezer. He said that would be no problem. I have enough alcohol in my
house to give a football team alcohol poisoning, however, I have no desire
to drink. I could get drunk and the next day I will forget about alcohol.
If I eat ice cream or high sugar treats I will be craving it for a week
after.
I can eat a pound of pasta, feel sick, and still be hungry. Certain things
trigger over eating in me. Those triggers will vary from person to person.
In my opinion, everyone needs to figure out what are the foods that lend
themselves to overeating.
When I stick to meat, berries, very small amounts of raw vegetables I can
not gain much weight no matter how much I eat. I WILL get sick before I get
fat. However, I may not always loose weight without some kind of
restrictions.

Critical Examination

I think this rather powerfully written article will dominate the
conversation in paleo/lowcarb circles for a while. Paul Jaminet's comments
at the Perfect Health Diet blog are also interesting.
