Hi,

The Eneloop batteries should work, albeit at a lower power level. And, you'll have to charge them externally, that is, outside the radio.

The power connector is your standard 2.1mm inner diameter/5.5mm outer diameter (I think) size coaxial plug. It's a standard part, same as lots of other QRP accessories.
