If there is no PL board in it you'll need to find one. I used to have one 
and that's not a bad radio at all. Not sure what the current draw is but 
it's about the same as most vhf radios in that 45 watt power range, around 
10 amps or so. I'm not doing the math. My favorite part about that radio was 
the sound of the receiver through that internal speaker, I've never heard 
anything like it outside a commercial radio. I lost the power module in mine 
as I recall which is a common thing for those radios so it would put out 5 
watts on high and low power but if I had much interest in 2 meters I'd 
probably have kept it.
