if you want lightening protection, then one ground rod is enough...but the
way you connect that ground rod to your equipment is the important part.
There are allot of really great articles on shack electrical grounding and
lightening protection on the net.
Just hooking your radio's ground screw up to a wire and out to a ground rod
is more or less minimal lightening protection and will likely not save any
of your equipment in the event of a lightening strike.
