Bob:
Your concern about auto-tuners is why I tend to use my Tentech 238A manual
tuner if I ever want to be really sure that I'm getting the maximum power
out of the rig with an antenna that is not exactly resonant.
Actually, the auto-tuner in an Icom 746 I used to have was even worse in
terms of lessening rig output power than the auto-tuner in the TS590 seems
to be.
So, in summary, I guess rig auto-tuners are a compromise at best, but can
come in handy if you want to do quick tuning for a contact or net check-in.
