Hi, again, everyone.
This afternoon and evening, I became involved in an unexpected, but
interesting project here. As many of you know, I am EC/RO for my county
here in Michigan, and due to the increased emphasis again on packet radio as
an important form of digital communication, a ham friend and I tried to see
if we could get me going on packet at least to see if things would work.
For my packet set-up, I will use an old TMV7A, and my Windows 7 laptop. I
have a 2-meter J-pole on a 40-foot mast that I can dedicate to packet
communication, and I have successfully downloaded and tried the Outpost
packet mail program.
My problem is what kind of interface to use between the TMV7A and my Windows
7 computer.
My friend brought over his USB signalink interface to try, and we actually
had some success. The Outpost program was very easy to learn and use, and I
was actually able to send and receive messages.
The problem is with the sound card interface. It is a problem that is very
similar to the problem I had earlier when trying to use the USB virtual
comport driver for the TS590.
The problem centers around the fact that the N3FJP wave files automatically
use the default sound card, and apparently, that can't be changed.
I have Jaws working from the high definition speakers codek sound card, but
when we put the signalink into the circuit, we loose either Jaws, or the
N3FJP wave files.
Does anyone use the signalink sound card interface with Jaws, windows 7, and
the N3FJP logging software? And, if so, how do you configure things to keep
everything going and talking as it should?
Before I spend $100 on the signalink interface, I want to see if it's worth
it, or whether I would be better off just going with a traditional TNC.
