I shop at a local Fred Meyer grocery store in Boise, Idaho, and recently picked up a box of Kroger Rice Bitz-the store-brand equivalent to General Mills Rice Chex. The Rice Chex are astronomically expensive at this store compared to Walmart and Winco Foods stores in the area (and even the Rice Bitz were high on sale compared to neighboring stores), so I thought I might try a box of the Kroger Rice Bitz since this time it was labeled "gluten free" in small lettering on the box (has not been labeled this way in the past when I checked a time before). I didn't see anything on the label about a dedicated facility like GM Rice Chex offers, but against my better judgment I thought I'd try a box since I didn't have time this week to make a stop at another store. A few mornings into my test of the Rice Bitz my gut seems to be showing signs of intestinal symptoms (and I'm eating my usual, bland, safe diet). I think there is cross-contamination from the non-dedicated facility and I'm quite sensitive. In the future, I won't be buying any more Kroger Rice Bitz-even in a pinch. I hoped sharing that might save a few people from sore bellies or other discomfort.
