Gluten intolerance is the umbrella, celiac disease is a part underneath the umbrella. Or think of gluten intolerance as your hand and celiac as one finger. She may or may not develop celiac - probably not if she is on the gluten free diet - unless she gets too much CC from the gluten free grains. Gluten intolerance is a lot worse than just celiac because celiac just damages the villi, gluten intolerance can damage every organ in the body, the heart, liver, kidneys, skin and the main thing that those of us with gluten intolerance suffer with is the brain and the many neurological issues that we can suffer. Such as, brain fog, ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, bi-polar, depression, migraines, seizures, and much more. Gluten intolerance opens her to other auto immune issues if she does not follow the gluten free diet and as she ages she will probably need to be more grain free and dairy free...

Yes, I believe that to be true. Intolerance will lead to CD if left unattended. Intolerance can also create many other issues such as hormone disturbance, thyroid issues, pulmonary issues, etc. So Celiac is not the only thing to be concerned about, it is just often the thing that gets the most attention. See the books Dangerous Grains and The Gluten Connection (they go into more detail about intolerance, not only celiac), also Robb Wolf's Paleo Solution discusses harm to the body from grains in general (not just gluten).

At this point, there is no evidence of this. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disease involving IgA antibodies; gluten intolerance or sensitivity is not an autoimmune disease and may not even be an immune reaction. Despite this, they often have the same symptoms and the same relief, treatment with a gluten-free diet.

At this time there has not been enough research to know the answer to that. Dr Fasano is trying to develop a test for gluten sensitivity.

In a word, No. In fact the situation is quite the opposite. CD is a part of a greater universe of gluten intolerance. Get a copy of "Healthier Without Wheat" by Dr. Steven Wangen. I also used to think they were on a continuum with CD at the "top" per se. They are not. Please get this inexpensive and clearly understood book. Every page is an eye-opener.

Absolutely, yet it depends if her 'weakest link' in her body is in her gut-digestive system (Celiac Disease when full villous atrophy occurs) or anywhere else in the body. (gluten sensitivity). You can find plenty of information at this link: http://bit.ly/ndlNzh
 Consider this research:
The prevalence of Celiac Disease has increased five-fold overall since 1974. This increase was not due to increased sensitivity of testing,
but rather due to an increasing number of subjects that lost the immunological tolerance to gluten in their adulthood. Ann Med. 2010 Oct;42(7):530-8
