Went to Rainforest Cafe today at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. This is my third or fourth trip to the restaurant, and I was pleased to see the service stayed accommodating.
A few years ago, before that trip (from NJ), I phoned ahead and spoke with a head chef who went over the menu with me and told me that if I let him know the exact date and meal I'd be coming for, he'd buy a potato and bake one for me...since they don't have gf potatoes on the menu. (They don't trust the fact that the potatoes come already mashed.) But I honestly felt I didn't need the potato, and didn't bother. When I arrived, even though I didn't call that day to let them know, the chef came out with the menu he had written on, when he was on the phone with me prior to my trip. I remember him saying he cooked my steak separate from everything else, on a clean grill. What I remember most is how they doted on me to be sure my meal was gluten-free, and that I was pleased.
There were one or two more visits, and although the details escape me, I know I was pleased.
Today, it was evident that they still know what they're doing. I told the hostess that I was gluten-free. Without missing a beat, she told me to just tell my waiter, and that they accommodate gf all the time. When I told the waiter, he immediately had the kitchen manager come out....who couldn't have been more accommodating....and he still doesn't trust the mashed potatoes. But I had delicious salmon and grilled vegetables...and couldn't have been more pleased. (I skipped the special butter...only because I don't need the calories.)
Rainforest knows how to please, and I just wrote to corporate to let them know it. Thought I'd share with you, too.
