Hi everyone,
It seems Amazon made some website updates in the last couple of weeks.
I discovered today that now, if you're using JAWS and go to Amazon's
website, it seems to know you're using a screen reader and
automatically routes you to the mobile site. In general, this is good
since mobile sites are often more accessible. But it became a problem
when I tried to buy an album from Amazon's digital music. Because the
website thinks I'm a mobile device, it wouldn't let me purchase the
album. I guess if you're going to buy albums from a mobile device, it
wants you to use the Amazon Music app, which by the way is not at all
accessible as far as I can tell. Even though I was using a PC, not a
mobile device, it told me that I could not purchase the album from my
device and needed to do it from a PC. Basically, it outsmarted
itself.
I spent at least half an hour on the phone today with a customer
service rep. They weren't able to solve the problem, but they now at
least are aware of it and are supposedly going to be trying to find a
solution so that screen reader users can purchase music from their
digital music site. I'll keep you posted if I'm aware of resolution
to this issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Have you found any
work-arounds?
