While this obviously is a problem for blind users, it actually should 
prove a welcome step for many customers as it will mean far fewer botched 
orders.
MCD already uses this technology 
to some degree in many of its drive-throughs as the person taking your 
order displays it for you to see on a display screen.
There are so many goofed-up orders at fast food places that this ought to 
cut down this to some extent.

The problem with systems such as those used at Krogers is that items must 
be placed correctly for the scanner to see the item and the bar coding 
must also be clear and there.
Krogers has not eliminated human cashiers but rather supplemented them 
with this system.  Undoubtedly, MCD will do the same and others will be 
joining this trend.
