I discussed this with David Karas, the other owner of this list. We 
came up with these guidelines:

(1) The source must be esteemed.

(2) It must have some connection with food. Now this can be a loose 
connection. The example article that Geoff posted discussed tools. 
Those tools were used to catch or butcher food. Mammoths would be a 
source of food.

(3) It shouldn't be announcing something that is on the front page of 
every newspaper around, unless you are posting some analysis of it.
