Here are a couple of pieces of info you might find useful.

1. To better manage your contacts, (assuming you are using Gmail in
html view as is suggested by Gmail for screen reader users) change
your view to "standard view". You can then operate with more
functionality in contacts. Nonetheless, its a pain in the a--.

2. There is a function created by some folks in New Zealand called
Accessible Google Calendar. This makes using the calendar a bit
easier, however, you do not have complete functionality of the
calendar; it is a simplified version.

I believe this is the link to that service, and it is pretty well
explained on the landing page here.

Good luck, if you need other information, there was recently a webinar
about the accessibility of Gmail and google calendar and the person
who hosted the webinar said:
" The Access Technology Higher Education Network (ATHEN), in its continuing
effort to assist institutions ascertain the accessibility of Google Apps
suite, conducted evaluations on GMail and Calendar. cover assistive
technologies used for visual, mobility, learning, cognitive disabilities.
Many performed quite well Calendar, but there were still significant
hurdles some technologies, particularly screen readers. report can be found
online at
