Scott,
Since you've got a fairly long power cable, you might consider moving the
supply further away from your operating position. I know that won't stop
the fan, but it might diminish the sound enough to make it less annoying. I
think you're pretty much stuck with some sort of fan when you have a
switching supply. The Astron linear supplies don't have fans, but as you've
pointed out, they're bigger and heavier than what you have now. Besides,
the transformers can be noisy in a different way.
