I really don't know, but here's my theory.
In some parts of the world, there are still party lines
with 2, 4 or 8 parties. CWT is Continuous Wave Telephony in
which people gather around their telephones way late in to the
night and communicate via Morse by saying the dits and daws.
QSB stands for quick stop by backhoe when somebody
accidentally cuts a line while digging and disrupts the
transmission.
If somebody's dog barks in the background, you can hear
a K9 call in any part of the US or world, for that matter.
