yup, lots of good topics here.
everything from computers to radio and everything in between...our moderator
is very flexible and let's things flow nicely.
generally speaking, the computer questions or topics are either directly, or
indirectly related to interfacing with a radio or something ham radio
related hi.
I am V A6BS QTH Edmonton Alberta Canada.
I've been licensed for about 7 years or so. I just recently obtained my two
letter call. In canada, you either have a prefix plus 3 letters, or a
prefix plus 2 letters. You can apply for and get your two letter suffix
after being licensed for 5 years.
unless you reside in one of the VY prefix areas with low amateur population,
in which case you can generally get a two letter suffix as your first call
sign.
All canadian provinces have either a Victor echo, or victor Alpha prefix,
followed by a number which indicates the specific province.
The acception to this being Prince Edward Island which has a VY2 prefix.
The 3 territories use VY1, VY2 and VY0 I believe as their prefixes.
Also, you cannot hold a call sign for another province unless you are a
resident of that province...so in other words, I could not have a ve7 or va7
prefix because I live in Alberta which is VE or VA6 land.
So, you can always tell what province a canadian ham lives in by the call
sign...different from the US now where anyone can hold another state prefix
number where ever they live.
Canada has a relatively low licensed amateur population, just shy of 69400
hams...for a national population of 32 million.
welcome to the list.
