Hi Michael, thanks for your observations, they're very interesting to me, as 
I've pretty much found the opposite to be true, at least in terms of 
ruggedness, the SMAs have been no_ match at all for the ruggedness of the 
BNCs.  When the BNC connecters might work loose inside the rig, they could 
almost invariably be tightened up with pliers or a wrench, with little to no 
chance of breaking the electrical connection to the plug, and hence the 
antenna.  Meanwhile, I've _never known of a sma connecter that was loose, 
without its' having also experienced a connection break.
*Although they're definitely smaller, in terms of form factor, I'd still 
_Much rather deal with a bnc, than with a sma, if given the chance.  But to
