It depends on what you want to do on packet. BBS's and stuff like that? I'd
use, if you have windows XP, I'd use winpac or outpost. For winlink, airmail
works pretty well with screen readers, APRS, nothing really does the trick
since that's mostly maps and stuff.
I like my PVC enclosed J pole I got on ebay, the mounting possibilities are
endless. It wasn't much money either and it seems to work as well as the
antennas I spent 4 times as much for where I used to live, and the one I use
on voice, as rare as I'm on there, is in a tree.
