While doing a bit of research to answer a question about my own PC, I found a great article from Tech Republic which goes into tremendous details about the various options of the built-in Disk Cleanup Utility. All Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems have this; I get to it by going to Computer, going to the hard drive, press alt-enter for properties and then tab until you get to the button. Ah, I've confirmed that you can get to it much quicker by typing in the word clean into the start menu/start screen and disk Cleanup should be one of the first options. This utility is a tad bit like CCleaner, although CCleaner offers more cleaning options and also includes a registry cleaner. About that registry cleaner ... use at your own risk. While I admit that I used to run it with abandon, I use it very cautiously and I now refuse to run it on a student or consumer's machine as it can do damage to your registry. Anyway, here's the article about using the Disk Cleanup utility, which does not tamper with the registry and is pretty safe to use. http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/regain-hard-disk-space-by-using-windows-update-cleanup-in-windows-7-and-8x/ -- -- Feel free to visit my new Web site http://www.DavidGoldfield.info Feel free to visit my LinkedIn profile http://www.linkedin.com/pub/david-goldfield/12/929/573 Visit my blog http://davidgoldfield.wordpress.com Follow me on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/davidgoldfield David Goldfield, Founder and Peer Coordinator Philadelphia Computer Users' Group for the Blind and Visually Impaired To learn more about the users' group, visit http://davidgoldfield.wordpress.com/2014/04/20/updated-faqphiladelphia-computer-users-group-for-the-blind-and-visually-impaired/ VICUG-L is the Visually Impaired Computer User Group List.
