I think that there is something that *must* be remembered here.  I do like 
Anna and Chris have outlined; but we are power screen reader users who 
have, over the years, mastered the intracacies and power built into the 
modern screen reader.
The low level user, on the other hand,, perhaps finds such links of 
greater value for they do not understand, nor care, that their screen 
reader has strong power built into it.
So, when setting things up, you probably need to reach for the lowest 
common denominator if your intention is to reach the greatest number of 
potential users/customers.
The fact that your site has such a link, even if it is totally 
unnecessary, perhaps brings a great deal of comfort to the low level user 
who you may be targeting.
