The pc in question is a HP Pavillion running Windows XP Home Service Pack
3 protected by Eset Smart Security 4.0.
This pc no longer can be connected to the internet either via ethernet
cable or wireless card. The ethernet cable works fine with other pcs and
so does the wireless card.
The pc acknowledges the card and shows the software as installed; and
connecting and disconnecting the ethernet cable from the pc is
acknowledged.

Prior to taking this pc into the shop, can anyone suggest things to try
which might bring the pc back connecting to the internet either via the
ethernet cable or wireless card? This one has me totally perplexed
