Where do you get that TS480 firmware upgrade, and what do I need to 
interface the computer with the rig?

I have a straight-through serial cable that I use for a rig-control 
interface with the N3FJP logging software.

Is that all I'd need?

If you have the latest ts-480 firmware upgrade, I think it is version 104
you should get a 6-1 range on the internal tuner.
