Google offers an alerts feature which can send you emails for the latest 
items on a predefined search.
This can be done for web pages, news, blogs, et al.

This may be one of those things where personal preference may hold which 
tool or tools to use; and there is no reason that a web crawler could be 
used alongside a Google or other search engine.
