For anyone who is interested in learning CW, Russ Farnsworth developed
a teaching method that is still in use even by the computer programs
that teach cw today.

He was also a blind ham.

I never met him, but I did meet his friend Dave Rutlidge. I believe I
remember Dave saying that he and Russ were roommates at the Illinois
School for the Blind.

Now, here is your chance to download a bit of ham radio history.

Subject: [QRP-L] The Real Russ Farnsworth

All this talk about learning Morse Code caused me to make a trip to my
basement to dig out the original Russ Farnsworth LP's from 1959. I
digitized the audio and made highly compressed mp3 files (88/1) and
they
still sound pretty good although Russ is a little bassy but perfectly
understandable. You can get them here:

http://kimbrell.freeshell.org/farnsworth.html

and you can read about other famous people who used this method here:

http://n1su.com/c31.htm

I have also made full fidelity CD's for the car or home CD player. I
think they are good for anybody just starting out because Russ is very
interactive with the listener. I'm sure he was a great Elmer - very
encouraging to the student. I haven't been very successful at finding
much information about Mr. Farnsworth which is strange because people
have
been referring to the "Farnsworth Method" for over 50 years!

Enjoy!
